In this simulator, object distance is entered as a positive value. The calculation uses 1/v = 1/f − 1/u, where f is positive for a convex lens.
m = −v/u. The actual image height is calculated using h′ = m × h; the size of the image is |h′|.
When the object is outside focus, refracted rays actually meet on the other side of the lens. The image is usually real and inverted.
When the object is between the lens and focus, the image forms on the same side as the object. It is virtual, erect, and enlarged.
